Lock 3 events return in June

DOWNTOWN AKRON — Akron's Lock 3 Park's 21st season of concerts, festivals and entertainment returns in June.Due to ongoing improvements in Lock 3 Park, the Rock the Lock concerts, Saturday concerts and movie events will be held in Lock 3's Backyard, located behind the original stage, next to The Akron Civic Theatre. Guests can enter from West Bowery Street, with parking located at the State Street parking deck and Cascade parking deck. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and visitors are invited to bring a chair or blanket.Concerts, Gospel Sundays and On The Plaza (sponsored by Downtown Akron Partnership) fitness, skate nights and line dancing events will be held at Cascade Plaza on Main Street between West Bowery and Mill Streets.The schedule of events include:• Live local bands will entertain Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cascade Plaza beginning June 7 with Umojah Nation;• The first Rock the Lock concert is June 23 at 7 p.m. with Into The Blue, a Tribute to ELO. Other scheduled bands include Fleetwood Mac Mania, E5C4P3, ABBA Mania, Who's Bad and more. Many are free and some have $5 admission, payable at the gate;• Sunday Movies begin June 4 at 8:45 p.m. at the Lock 3 Cleveland Clinic outdoor stage. The free movies include "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," "Zootopia," "Coco," "Sing 2" and more;• Gospel Sundays with uplifting music will be offered at Cascade Plaza beginning July 16 from 4 to 6 p.m.;• New this year is Lunch @ the Lock, Fridays beginning June 2 at Lock 3 and Lock 2 near the Towpath. Bring a lunch or buy from a downtown eatery or a food truck. Entertainment will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and• The Rib White and Blue Festival returns June 30 to July 4 with nightly concerts; the African American Cultural festival will be held July 22-23; the Italian American Festival is Aug. 3-5; and the Akron Pizza Fest is set for Sept. 1-2.For a complete list of events and more details about them, visit www.lock3live.com.
