By India Today Web Desk: A security alert was sparked in Parliament early Tuesday morning after a Member of Parliament's car accidentally came in contact with the boom barriers installed at the entrance of the complex.

BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar was on his way to work when the car he was travelling in accidentally touched the boom barrier placed at Gate No. 1 of the Parliament complex. As the car touched the barrier, the spikes at the gate got activated -- causing damage to the MP's car. The car's tyres were slashed by the security spikes.

Vinod Kumar Sonkar is the BJP MP from Kaushambi in Uttar Pradesh. He is also the National President for BJP's SC Morcha and the current chairperson of the parliamentary committee on Ethics.

A similar scare occurred in February 2019 after a car belonging to Congress Lok Sabha MP from Manipur Thokchom Meinya rammed into a security barricade.

In December 2018, a private taxi sparked a brief security scare at Parliament this morning after the vehicle crashed into the entrance barrier of Sansad Bhavan.

An instant alert was sounded among the security forces that guard Parliament and a Quick Response Team (QRT) of the Central Reserve Police Force immediately blocked the entrance route.
