The BMW Car Club Cape Town (BMWCCCT) has launched an investigation after a video of a BMW driver verbally abusing a petrol attendant at Shell service station caused outrage on social media, Cape {town} Etc reports.

In the video, the attendant can be seen removing the wheel clamp of a BMW,with safety car decals on its doors when the driver approaches.

The driver orders the attendant to hurry up, spewing profanity throughout the 28-second clip.

The attendant obliges and the driver pulls away.

In a statement yesterday, the BMW Car Club Cape Town (BMWCCCT) said they were aware of the incident and subsequent video on social media, emphasizing that the footage was not taken taken at a club event and that the driver in question was using the vehicle, which does not belong to the club, in his private capacity.

‘We have initiated disciplinary proceedings to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure accountability.’

‘We are committed to achieving a fair and accurate understanding of the situation by working closely with all parties involved to clarify what transpired and address any potential misunderstandings’

The BMWCCCT statement added that management had visited the Shell Campground as part of their investigation.

Meanwhile, Shell released a statement thanking the organization for their swift intervention.

‘We would like to emphasize that it was never about the car being driven but more importantly about the disrespectful behaviour and attitude shown toward our staff,’ read the statement from Shell. ‘Every employee has the right to a safe work environment, respect and dignity.’
