ANPR to be introduced in two new Medway car parks
Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras will soon be introduced at two
Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras will soon be introduced at two new car parks in Rochester.
We will be introducing ANPR in the Corporation Street and Blue Boar Lane car parks from Tuesday, 13 June.
How does ANPR work?
Residents and visitors enter the car park and park their vehicle and then, when they are ready to leave, they enter their registration details into the parking kiosks and pay for their parking using card, contactless, cash or by phone. They can also pay using the Go Mobon parking app or RingGo Pay Later.
The ANPR cameras will then automatically raise the barrier as motorists exit.
Sign up for an online parking account
Residents can also sign up for an online parking account and ‘AutoPay’ option, which will record when a registered vehicle enters and leaves the car park and automatically bills the account holder's payment account, without the need to go over to the kiosks or use an app.
Taxi drivers will need to pre-register and upload a copy of their valid licence for free access to the taxi rank in the Corporation Street car park.
Blue badge holders
Blue badge holders will be able to continue to park for free, but they must register their blue badge and vehicle details online before entering the car parks. They must also display their blue badge when parked. If you need help with your online application, call 01634 331650 between 9am and 3pm Monday to Friday or email [email protected].
Limited waiting at Rochester railway station
Motorists will still be able to park in a bay at the Corporation Street car park for free for 20 minutes to pick up, or drop off, people using Rochester railway station. Vehicles must exit the car park within 20 minutes and not return for two hours, or they will be charged for parking.
Michael Edwards, Head of Transport and Parking at Medway Council, said: "We will be introducing ANPR to the car parks in Corporation Street and Blue Boar Lane from Tuesday, 13 June. ANPR will make it easier for residents to park and enjoy all Rochester has to offer, without worrying about having to rush back to their vehicles when their pre-paid parking ticket runs out. I would encourage residents to sign up for an online account to make parking even easier."
