A driver was arrested after ramming a red SUV into the front gate of the FBI’s Atlanta headquarters on Monday, according to the bureau.
The FBI said that the vehicle drove past the employee entrance gate shortly after noon, as the unidentified suspect attempted to enter the Georgia facility.
The suspect was taken into custody by the Dekalb County Police and transported to an area hospital for evaluation, officials said. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The FBI added that when the vehicle tried to enter the facility, a pop-up barrier was deployed, with the car crashing straight into it.
Peter Ellis, the assistant special agent in charge, told reporters that the driver had attempted to enter the facility by following behind an employee vehicle before hitting the barrier.
Images from the scene show the SUV with its crumpled hood halted by the front gate barrier.
Officials are investigating the scene and trying to identify the driver and their possible motive.
Ellis declined to comment on whether or not there is any indication that the incident was part of a terrorist attack.
This is a developing story.
