Peebles: DVLA blitz sees untaxed cars clamped across town

PEEBLES motorists without road tax found their cars immobilised by the Driver

PEEBLES motorists without road tax found their cars immobilised by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) this week.

A DVLA spokesperson said that its wheel clamping partner, NSL Services Ltd, was working in the town on Monday and took enforcement action against 10 untaxed vehicles.

In addition to the orange clamps, marked DVLA and chained to one of a car's driving wheels, a large sticker with release options was stuck to a side window and further information tucked under a wiper blade.

The DVLA spokesperson added: "Wheel clamping is one of a range of enforcement measures used to tackle vehicle tax evasion.

"As part of their day-to-day enforcement activities, DVLA's national wheel clamping partner goes to different areas of the country to clamp or impound any untaxed vehicles seen on the road.

"While more than 98 per cent of vehicles on the road are taxed correctly, it is right that we take action against those who break the law and don't tax their vehicle.

"DVLA does not have to spot an untaxed car on the road to take action and its enforcement measures including fines and penalties as well as on the road enforcement such as wheel clamping."

The DVLA has a range of options to make it easy for drivers to pay their vehicle tax including quick and easy online services, which are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and direct debit.

The spokesperson added: "If your vehicle has been wheel clamped because it is untaxed, you will need to tax your vehicle and then pay a release fee."
