Upcoming events: Loveland Pride, movies, history, art, music and more

​​Loveland Pride, organized by the Rainbow Collective, will ​be held at noon-3 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Backyard Tap​, 323 ​N. Railroad Ave.

The inclusive event aims to celebrate and support the LGBTQIA community in Loveland.

Before the main event, there will be a community walk to symbolize unity and support for the LGBTQIA community. The walk will start at noon and will gather participants at the Foote Lagoon in Civic Center Park, 500 E. Third St.

Loveland's Movies in the Park series will start with "Strange World" (PG) at 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Cattail Creek Golf Course, 2116 W. 29th St.

The movie is free and families can try free SNAG golf at 5-8 p.m. and enjoy outdoor games and activities. The movie will start around 8:45 p.m.

Families can bring blankets, chairs or picnics (no alcohol or glass allowed).

The movie series will continue with:

• June 23: "Top Gun" (PG-13), Kroh Park, 5200 N. Garfield Ave.

• July 14: "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" (PG), North Lake Park, 2750 N. Taft Ave.

• July 22: "The Goonies" (PG), dive-in movie at Winona Pool, 1615 Fourth St. SE. Pool entry fee required.

• July 28: "Frozen II" (PG), Foundry Plaza, Third Street between Lincoln and Cleveland avenues.

Missoula Children's Theatre will present "Rapunzel" at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at the Rialto Theater Center, 228 E. Fourth St.

The theater will be casting children at 10 a.m. Monday, June 12. The team will be looking for 50-60 local students to join the cast. Rehearsals will be held through the week, leading up to the Saturday performances. Tuition is $75. Register at bit.ly/3BXBAjj.

Music Moves Us, a program for children, will be offered at 10-11 a.m. Monday, June 12, at the Loveland Public Library, 300 N. Adams Ave.

Stop into the storytime room to dance, sing, and enjoy music. A variety of preschool-friendly instruments and music for movement and singing along will be included. All ages are welcome.

The Metropolitan MetroLux Theatres at 6085 Sky Pond Drive at the Promenade Shops at Centerra and downtown Loveland at 285 E. Third St., will offer a Metro Summer Kids Movie Series starting Tuesday, June 13.

The Loveland Historical Society will present a talk on "Current Wars: Edison's and Tesla's Battle for America's Power System (Part 2)" by John Cowdrey at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at the Loveland Museum, 503 N. Lincoln Ave.

The two geniuses waged a battle over which was the best source of electric energy. A darker historical episode is included — how Edison promoted capital punishment by electrocution of prisoners and animals.

Cowdrey also will discuss Edison and Tesla's later inventions and Tesla's fall from fame.

The Nature Fix: Healing Power of Nature will be offered at 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Sylvan Dale Ranch, 2939 N. County Road 31D.

People and families that have been affected by cancer can attend the nature healing session to learn mindfulness exercises to engage sensory awareness while intentionally tuning into the birds. Birding experience is not required.

The morning activities go from 9:30 to 11:30, followed at noon by lunch and a speaker, Florence Williams, author of "The Nature Fix," who will discuss how science has demonstrated what we intuitively know: nature makes us happier, healthier, and more creative..

The morning mindful birding and healing with nature is free of charge. The lunch and speaker part of the day is $35. Scholarships are available; reach out to [email protected].

Sunday Funday for a Cause will offer an all levels yoga class at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, June 11, at the Big Thompson Brewery, 114 E. 15th St.

Marissa Nelson will lead the class.

A $30 ticket includes the class, a beer and a donation to Guiding Connections, a division of House of Neighborly Services that helps the homeless in Loveland, providing shelter, emergency funds and services.

Brave365 Trip W​i​re will take place at 3:30-7 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at Foundry Plaza, Third Street between Lincoln and Cleveland avenues.

The free community event will celebrate the end of the pandemic and applaud citizens who have made Loveland a better place to live.

The band Trip Wire will give a concert. Bring a chair or blanket.

The 39th annual New Legacies: Contemporary Art Quilts exhibit will take place Saturday, June 10, through Aug. 5 at the Lincoln Center Gallery, 417 W. Magnolia.

The juried exhibition will feature the current work of the national and international contemporary quilt artists, whose works exemplify innovation in quilting and surface design techniques as well as excellence in artistic composition and craftsmanship.

The opening reception will be held at 4-6 p.m. Saturday, June 10, with the awards presentation at 5 p.m.

Exhibition jurors are Vicki Carlson, a studio art quilter and fabric designer residing in Fort Collins; Phil D. Jones, a crossover artist from Morrison; and Niraja Lorenz, who has been quilting since 1994.

The annual Taste of Fort Collins event will take place June 10-11 at the Washington Park, 301 Maple St.

Fort Collins Water Works will mark its 140th anniversary with an open house at 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at the 1883 Water Works, 2005 N. Overland Trail.

The event will include docent led tours of the historic buildings; a bucket brigade, a fire engine, and history booth from Poudre Fire Authority; water trivia games and activities; and a blacksmithing demonstration.

Admission is free; donations will be accepted for the nonprofit Poudre Landmarks Foundation's mission to preserve, restore, protect, and interpret the architectural and cultural heritage of the Fort Collins area.

Northern Colorado Race Amity Coalition will present the Race Amity Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at the Northside Aztlan Community Center, 112 E. Willow St.

Race Amity Day, also known as Race Unity Day, has been celebrated annually on the second Sunday of June every year since its inception in 1957 by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’i's of the United States.

Featured speakers include Camille Dungy, University Distinguished Professor in the Department of English at Colorado State University, and Ray Black, an assistant professor of ethnic studies focused on African-American studies.

The Azteca Dance Fusion group and Maputo Mensah from Accra, Ghana, West African drums and dance, will perform and there will be games and face painting for kids.

Admission is free. Co-sponsors include the Interfaith Council, Our Commitment to Self and Society, and the Cultural Enrichment Center of Fort Collins.

More Than Physics will perform at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at the Lincoln Center, 417 W. Magnolia St.

Join More Than Physics in concert to celebrate the band's newest album release, "Strata." The album is the culmination of the hours and effort spent on honing the group's sound and craft together over the last 12 years.

A Windsor Community Volunteer Day will be held Saturday, June 10, at Eastman Park, 7025 Eastman Park Drive.

Community members can help paint a community mural, landscape the parking lot, clean the riverwalk and more.

Shifts are available at 9-11:30 a.m. and noon-2:30 p.m.
