Members of the community may have noticed the pavilion at Lock 8 Gateway Park has been surrounded by fencing and is no longer accessible to the public.
JUST THE FACTS
•City of Port Colborne staff has recommended to the city council that the pavilion be demolished and removed due to structural concerns.
•The estimated cost for the demolition and removal project is about $15,000.
•City staff are currently working with the Niagara Region to complete a conceptual design of Lock 8 Park to prepare an application for the Region's Public Realm Investment Program (PRIP) in 2024.
•The conceptual design will incorporate streetscaping Mellanby Avenue, a new location for the playground when replacement is required, and a new parking area. A new pavilion or shade structure will be incorporated into the design as a replacement for the demolished existing structure.
•Members of council were expected to discuss options for the pavilion and potential replacement at its May 23 council meeting.
